We would like to inform you that one of our great bands, Phantom Planet, have made the tough decision to go on hiatus. Their last show they will play is on December 12th at the Troubadour Venue in California. Here is the official blog from Phantom Planet member, Darren's, myspace.
This message is directed towards all those who are fans of Phantom Planet:
You can always contact me on here, and I will do my best to respond. I figured rather than answer a million (okay, maybe one hundred) messages regarding this, a blog entry would be best.
Alex will continue to write music and has discussed recording a solo record in time- he is constantly writing and it'll be amazing for him to have an outlet on his own. I personally look forward to hearing what he comes up with, as he has always been one of my favorite song writers. His creativity has, for over fifteen years, never ceased to amaze me.
Sam, being one of the most extraordinarily talented and tasteful musicians I've ever known (not to mention one of the most genuine, warm and responsible people ever), will continue to produce, make music with his amazing wife and most likely play future shows with close friends.
Jeff, being not only a great drummer, has become quite the editing genius, as he's shown us in the Phantom Planet blog videos this year. He's got smarts, skills, creativity and a positive attitude. He is a true professional in every sense of the word. I'm sure he will use his talent to pursue new goals, musically, in the world of editing and beyond.
I plan to pursue new endeavors both musically and artistically. One of my best friends has insisted I write a book about all my experiences over the years. Perhaps I will in time. I kept several journals that I recently rediscovered from around 2002, when we were touring for "The Guest" and beyond. Needless to say, I have some insane stories to share.
To answer many of you- this hiatus is entirely amicable. There has been no fighting involved, I assure you. All four of us need some time to figure things out and just to be home. Fifteen years together is a long time indeed.
I will always consider Alex, Sam and Jeff to be my brothers from different mothers. I have shared a surreal half of my life with them and I am extremely thankful for that. My love goes out to Jason and Jacques as well, as they were, of course, also a huge part of the band's life.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the years. I know it sounds incredibly cliche, but we never could have survived so long without our wonderful fans.
With love,
Darren
PS. As promised, this myspace will not be deleted like my previous ones. I find a source of comfort knowing I can always be contacted by fans and old friends. And no, our blog videos will not be removed! (youtube.com/phantom36 )
We wish our good friends luck! Please comment and send them your love!
